Add the chicken and season with salt , pepper ,and thyme . Cook until the chicken is browned . Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute . Slowly add the chicken broth , whisking until smooth . Add the milk , cream ,and bay leaves and bring to a simmer . Cook until thickened and bubbly . Remove from heat and discard the bay leaves.
